WHY WE SEW

Why we sew?
Good question, and the answer is different for each person.
To feed the curious cat, I sew because of the endless ideas, inspirations and sharing of stories in the journey of the project. Also with each finished project the world seems a little prettier.
My mom taught me how, but it was very much what a lot of people believe it to be and that is as a necessity like hem pants or take garments in when they get to lose... and so on. Sitting next to her and intently listening to the warnings of -do not get your fingers under the needle- are my fondest memories. I can be in the moment instantly when I close my eyes. I miss you mom. Thank you for that moment and I hope my children will have that to of me when I leave this world to bring them comfort.
A wonderful woman name Trish would come to our house every Wednesday to relieve my mom from the task of caring for my brother (who has cerebral palsy). She is very talented in the art of quilting and all things sewing, as she had close ties to the amish community.
When my small - not perfect-but nicely flawed project was complete, I could not wait to show her what I had made. It was her critique that I loved, as she would show me where I could improve and techniques that had been shared through generations.
As time goes on my task has been to share what I have learned and pass it on, but also to never stop learning new things as that is how we make the world better - one stitch at a time-.
Since the store. "sew-u-can" has opened, so many wonderful people have come in and shared their reasons for sewing.
Each one is different but always positive.
Like no two projects turn out the same, the same goes for our choice in colours and how to cut, stitch and display our vision. Plus, who doesn't like to stand back and see the final results, ours or someone else's and say, now I see... BEAUTIFUL.
